The Hartebeest, also known as Kongoni in Swahili, is clumsy in appearance compared to other antelope, with its humped shoulders, sloping back, slim legs and a long, narrow face.
But don't let their appearance fool you! The Hartebeest is one of the fastest antelopes and most enduring runners. These qualities are what gives it the name "Hartebeest" which means tough ox.
There are 8 subspecies of Hartebeest that can be found in the eastern, southern and western parts of Africa. This species is known as a Red Hartebeest.
There has been no illegal culling or poaching of these animals.
This skull measures approx. 65cm long x 31cm wide.
