Ashes to Glass are handmade cremation keepsakes by our partners at Memorial Glass. The award winning glass artists at Memorial Glass carefully incorporate your loved one’s ashes into ornamental glass that is designed to be touched and treasured. Once encased in their very own commemorative ornament, your loved one’s ashes cannot be spilled as they can from an urn and will live on as heirlooms.
How much ash do you need to make a memorial?
Only a very small amount of ash is required; 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon per piece is more than enough.
What do you do with any left-over ash?
All unused ash is returned to you, along with your completed Memorial Glass order, unless you request it not to be returned.
Will I be able to see the ashes in the glass?
Yes, the white, bubbly streaks that you see in our photographs are actually ashes encased in glass.
Can I send you all the ashes if I am not comfortable removing some of them for you?
Yes, we are happy to do that for you.
Can I have more than one color put in a Memorial Glass piece?
Yes, there are two colour combinations that you can choose from for our Galaxy Domes, Spiral Domes, Bubbles Domes, Life Hearts and Comfort Stones.
I have my own design, will you make it for me?
We are happy to discuss the possibilities with you.
Is it possible to mix the ashes of more than one animal together?
It is possible to mix the ashes together, we are happy to do this for you.
Can I use fur instead of ashes?
Due to the high temperatures needed to work with glass we cannot use fur. Unfortunately it will just burn away.
What if my glass memorial breaks in transit?
In the unlikely event that your Memorial Glass memento arrives damaged we will replace it free of charge as long as we are notified within 14 days of receipt of delivery. Photographic evidence will be required.
What should I do when my pet passes away?
To prepare your pet for any kind of preservation, we recommend moving him or her to a freezer as soon as possible. Before doing so, create an airtight seal around your pet either by placing them in an airtight tupperware container or zip lock bag, or by wrapping them in at least two sealed layers of plastic (plastic bags will work nicely). This will protect them from freezer burn.
Please note: Whilst we will do everything we can to ensure your pet is preserved beautifully, we cannot accept responsibility for pets that have been exposed to bacteria or allowed to thaw out before they reach us. We can only work within the limitations of your pet’s condition at the time we receive him or her.
Your pet will need to be cremated prior to the Memorial Glass process. Please see our Cremation service if you would like us to help you organise your pet’s cremation.
If you decide to organise your pet’s cremation yourself, please ensure the ashes are stored in a secure container.
How long can my pet stay in the freezer while I make arrangements?
Your pet can be stored safely for many years as long as you have used good quality freezer storage bags.
How long will the process take?
Most preservation services can be completed within approximately 3 months. However, each animal - in death, as in life - is different and will require its own tender loving care to ensure that you have a beautiful preserved memento that will stand the test of time.
How do I get my pet to you?
We are happy to work with you to coordinate the delivery of your pet or your pet’s ashes to our Northcote based studio in Melbourne VIC. Alternatively we can discuss shipping options with you based on your location. Services are available to anyone anywhere in Australia and transport options will be discussed at the time of your enquiry.
