Diaphonisation was first developed in 1977 by the scientists G. Dingerkus and L.D. Uhler, and has also been known as clearing and staining. The process uses chemicals which are employed to render the skin of an animal translucent, as well as break down flesh, while dyes are used to colour the bones or cartilage.

These specimens become transparent and offer a window into their skeletal structure. A truly beautiful way to see anatomy.

This vintage common ringtail possum specimen has been lovingly restored by the Rest in Pieces team, diaphonised, and housed in a globe that measures approx. 10cm in diameter.

Complete with a black base, this is a very special feature piece to add to your collection.
